Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is what nature intended for your baby’s nutrition. It is a continuation of what you already started in the womb. However, our culture has pushed this natural process aside for a period of time, and what should be a natural instinct, now has to be learnt all over again.
For some time, it was believed that breast milk alone did not provide enough nutrients for the baby. Mothers were not encouraged to breastfeed and in fact many didn’t. Nowadays, even milk formula companies admit that breast milk is indeed the best for your baby (and for you too).
You might encounter problems or difficulties while breastfeeding so we have outlined most of them in this section together with suggestions on how to overcome them.
Remember that help is at hand. The staff at the Breastfeeding Unit at Mater Dei will be happy to help you, so contact them or visit them at the walk in Clinic at Mater Dei.
