vitamins during pregnancy Healthy Mum, Healthy Baby

Getting the right nutrition will help you enjoy pregnancy and life as a mum.

During pregnancy your unborn baby relies on you to provide all the essential nutrients and energy he needs to turn from a tiny ball of cells to a fully functioning human being. A healthy, balanced diet is top of your antenatal health plan. As well as an extra 200-300 calories a day, make sure you get plenty of nutrients like folic acid (found in fortified cereals and leafy green vegetables) and vitamin B12 (found in meat) for healthy fetal development. If you’re not sure you’ve ticked all the boxes, you might want to consider a pregnancy supplement like Sanatogen Pronatal, which contains the recommended daily amount of 400mcg of folic acid. Sanatogen Pronatal + Omega-3 is also available to help you make sure you get enough of this nutrient – important for your baby’s brain and eye development.

But good nutrition doesn’t stop at the delivery suite

Post-pregnancy can be a tiring, testing time, and your body will need to restore nutrients such as the calcium that you have used while you were pregnant. New mums are at increased risk of low iron levels, which is why you’ll also need plenty of iron. You can find these elements in your diet – dairy products and leafy greens are rich in calcium, while iron is found in red meat and leafy greens. However, being a new mum means you often eat on the go – which is unlikely to guarantee you a healthy, balanced diet every day. This is why a vitamin supplement can offer peace of mind.
The Sanatogen Pregnancy Range contains essential nutrients to help support your health and vitality as you care for your newborn, including vitamin D, needed for breastfeeding. It also contains calcium to rebuild your body’s calcium stores and, if you’re breastfeeding, to support milk production. It’s vital that you drink plenty of water – at least 1½ liters a day – too. And as your body will prioritise making milk over other physical functions, you need to know that not only is your baby getting the right nutrition, but you are, too. Sanatogen  Pronatal  helps to keep you both covered. Add an extra 500 calories to your diet (healthy food, like fruit, rather than cakes and sweets) to help offset the energy passed onto your baby and in making your milk. And make sure you get dad to take over sometimes, so you can have a well-earned rest.

This advice was brought to you by the Sanatogen Pregnancy range.
