Sandy's Story - The Most Cherished Pregnancy Moment
Last year I was pregnant with our son Benjamin. My husband and I are both in our 40's - we had been married for four years and we hadn't realised how much time had passed for us to have a baby - so when I got pregnant after only one month of trying it was fantastic.
We were thrilled with this pregnancy and treasured every moment, but at around 20 weeks I felt dizzy and had some fainting episodes and also some stomach cramps. We went to the Emergency Department in the hospital and I was immediately admitted. I was wheeled to the ward and during that time I cried my heart out because I felt that I was going into hospital with my baby but leaving without him as at 20 weeks it was too early to deliver. Also because I was nearly 41 years old I felt that we would not be able to try again for a baby.
After a night in hospital my cramps subsided and I was given an ultrasound scan. Seeing that my baby's heart was beating well was great but the best moment ever was seeing my baby poised with his arm over his head - in the way I sleep as if to say 'Look mummy, I'm well and relaxed. Please don't worry'. Seeing him in that position gave me a boost and I knew that my baby was well and a fighter.
Benjamin is one on 15th August - a bit earlier than expected but more than awaited for and definetly well loved.
