Home > Toddlers > How safe is the Swine Flu vaccine on children?

childcare centres malta Swine Flu Vaccine for 2 year olds

A question from one of our readers:

How safe is it to give swine flu vaccine to 2 year olds? Are the side effects including guillian barre people are talking about on newspapers really true? Is it safer to risk the infection or the injection?

Dr. Fearne replies:

According to the manufacturers (GSK in our case) the incidence of Guillian-Barre syndrome following vaccination for swine flu is less then 1 in 10,000. The risk of contacting the disease (swine flu) amongst non-immunized individuals, with the attendant possible complications, is of course, much higher.
